Streama Overview

Team: Priyana Patel, Maya Stehle

The Problem

Helping families and friends connect and share their experiences with content such as series television shows and movies they love

How can we increase engagement and interaction for diverse content through personalized educational experiences?

The Solution

A third-party desktop website where the community can celebrate shared stories together through communal and authentic experiences

Streama is a platform that encourages a worldview perspective for viewers while diversifying content.

Target Audience

What We Watch Is Heavily Influenced by Where We Live and the Cultural Communities We Associate With

Distinct viewing communities are based on geographical location and cultural perspectives.

User Research

Viewers Rely on Their Communities to Learn About New Streaming Content

Streama Research Learn.png

Since 83% of participants rely on word of mouth and 75% of participants rely on social media, we needed to:

Provide curated content for viewers and their viewing communities (aka the people they watch content with) AND

Make sure viewers had a way to organically share their word-of-mouth marketing through conversation

Videos and Readings Provide Further Exploration

Streama Research Education.png

Since audiences preferred watching informational videos and reading articles to learn more about the content they watched, we needed to:

Make sure viewers had more educational content (videos + articles) to explore after their viewing experience

Popularity and Insight Drive Content Interaction

Streama Research Click.png

Since users are more likely to click on a new TV show or movie based on metrics and previews of the content itself, we needed to:

Highlight movies the way they are already displayed while integrating markers for popularity and location

Feedback and Reflection

Meaningful & Intentional User Experience

  • While Maya and I did not receive formal feedback on our project, we received a 22/25 for our score in the UX category
  • We feel this score reflects the meaningful experience we created across diverse viewing groups

You Can Do a Lot but Also Very Little in 48 Hours

  • Maya and I had to improvise and revise our design process to stay on schedule
  • We spent considerate time on our information architecture and user flow and had to accommodate for our visual design

Ensuring the Intent of Features Translates to Users

  • After sharing our prototype with friends and family members after the conclusion of the creative jam, we found ourselves having to explain what “Viewing Communities” were
  • It would be helpful to include a short tour and introduction for first-time users
  • Explore ways to better integrate related resources during the streaming experience

Universal Reviews and Conversational Language

  • We would love to conduct further research on how viewers interact with simultaneous chat features while streaming content
  • Our goal was to provide an easy way to promote genuine conversations about content from diverse perspectives, however, do short reviews such as “insightful” and conversation building go hand in hand?
  • How can we encourage viewers from different cultures and geographical regions to communicate with each other?

Future Testing

We Plan to Test Our Product With Potential Viewers From Our Initial Research Stage to Evaluate the User Interface, Usability, and Task Completion Rate
